Manchild is an experimental lyric poster inspired by Sabrina Carpenter’s song of the same name. The project explores expressive typography, collage, halftone imagery, and texture to visually interpret the song’s playful and sarcastic tone.
Concept & Inspiration
The idea started with an unexpected situation in my shared apartment. A fruit fly infestation was mistaken for mosquitoes, while clothes were regularly left sitting in the dryer long after the cycle had finished.
My initial sketches featured a fruit fly on a half-eaten piece of fruit alongside an overflowing dryer. As I developed the concept, I replaced the fruit fly with a mosquito—a visual that referenced the original misunderstanding while also pairing humorously with the lyric “stupid.”
The laundry became a subtler part of the final design. Rather than illustrating a dryer directly, I used fabric texture as the background, turning another detail from the situation into part of the poster’s visual language.
Together, these everyday frustrations became the starting point for a playful interpretation of Manchild, using humor and experimentation to turn a personal experience into a visual concept.
Visual Direction
The final poster combines halftone imagery, collage, expressive script typography, and fabric texture to create an intentionally playful and slightly chaotic composition. The oversized fruit acts as the main focal point, while the mosquito and surrounding typography reveal the story through smaller details.
